Porfidio – Single-Agave Anejo Super-Jalisco 39.3% (100% Agave)
History
Porfidio was established in 1991 in Jalisco by Martin Grassl. Born in 1967 in Austria, Grassl grew up spending his summer holidays working at his aunt’s eaux-de-vie distillery. After embarking on a career with an Austrian drinks company, he was sent to Mexico at age 24 to learn about marketing tequila. It didn’t take him long to realise there was a gap in the market and Porfidio was born.
Distilled from the highest quality blue Agave within the State of Jalisco, Porfidio is unique in its positioning: it is not merely tequila, but a super-premium spirit with a range of specialist brands produced in limited quantities. Undiscovered by the general public, Porfidio’s unique bottles have obtained cult status amongst tequila collectors and aficionados.
Tasting Notes
Five years ageing in American oak casks has given the Anejo a deep gold colour and clean, sweet caramel and butterscotch notes. The palate is as smooth and as a subtle as an old cognac.
Martin Grassl was born in 1967, who spent his summer holidays learning about distillation in his aunt’s eaux-de-vie distillery.
Later while working for a drinks company he was sent off to Mexico to learn all about marketing tequila. He spent a year in Jalisco learning all aspects of producing tequila, studying agave cultivation, glass production and examining sales and marketing. It is from this insight into the tequila world that Martin Grassl spotted a gap in the market for quality distilled blue agave tequila. His aim was to establish a product that would blast the image of tequila out of the firewater category and into a super-premium spirit sector. Martin has achieved cult status for the Porfidio range, comprising specialist brands produced in limited quantities. Porfidio agave is described as a ‘Super premium agave spirit’
