Le Macioche – Rosso di Montalcino 2013
Approaching Montalcino from the southeast, visitors to the medieval hill town first ascend the hill of Le Macioche, just beyond which this estate of the same name is located.
The 3-hectacre vineyard, located at 450m above sea level -one of the highest for Brunello- was restored in the late eighties and is today managed and owned by Northern Italian business man Riccardo Caliari.
The estate produces distinctive wines, with elegant high-toned aromatics and complex floral-to-woodsy scents, with hints of underlying power and full body. Their total annual production is only about 1500 cases.
A fresh, bright red with pretty, floral aromatics that meld into a delicate expression of cherries, spices, herbs and tobacco.
