Capannelle Members’ Wine Dinner 2011
Monday 28th March 2011
The latest event in our series of Members’ Wine Dinners was hosted by Mr James Sherwood, owner of Capannelle, who talked us through a range of wines from this highly respected Tuscan estate. Accompanying the line up of superlative wines, included a rare mature vintage from the estates impeccable cellars, with a menu designed by Harry’s Bar Head Chef, Michele Lombardi.
The Capanelle project began in 1974 with the purchase of vineyards and a 16th Century farmhouse in the Gaiole area of Chianti. From their superbly sited 16ha of vineyards, Capanelle produce a range of wines from the classic Chianti, a refined and elegant Chardonnay, the Sangiovese based Solare and the joint venture ‘50&50’ where the Sangiovese of Capannelle is blended with the Merlot of leading producer Avignonesi to produce this iconic wine. Commitment to quality shows through the entire production at Capanelle, from their 40 metre long barrel room, to the selective sourcing of oak from France and the corks from Sardinia, all combine to produce wines worthy of any cellar.
